Does child birth really not hurt at all?

Every time I talk to a woman whose had a child, even my mother, they say that it doesn’t hurt at all and women who are expecting children say that they aren’t afraid to go through labor because they’ll be so high on the drugs that the doctor gives them that they won’t feel it at all. I’ve seen documentaries on child birth and the women who go through typical childbirth [not C sections] are always screaming and crying so if it doesn’t hurt then why are they always doing that when I’ve seen childbirth on video?
