Whats normal for having sex again after childbirth?

i tried to have sex with my boyfriend again last night and everything seemed fine it didnt hurt or anything. but this morning when i woke up my vaginaa was really swollen and it hurts. has anyone else experienced this? is it normal? or could it mean something bad?
